This year is an important one for the team at AZero as it marks 21 years in business. It is amazing to see how far the business has come; from working out of the spare room with wandering chooks to transitioning into a professional modern office in Te Ngae Road with three Frenchie sidekicks.

From these humble beginnings the business has grown from a ‘one man band’ to a workforce of 6 highly talented people designing and drafting plans for future builds and coordinating the multifaced components for an array of projects from all over New Zealand; from Auckland to Lake Hawea in the South Island and an array of places in between.

Projects have varied from group housing, luxury housing and holiday homes, accommodation buildings, wedding venues, SPCA buildings, School renovations, refurbs and fit outs, subdivision planning and commercial and industrial developments. We have even had the privilege of being involved in projects that have gone on to win awards in the NZ House of the Year competition as well as being featured in the NZ House and Garden Magazine, and winning awards in the ADNZ awards.

These projects have all been taken into our stride and successfully completed but have not come without their challenges. Our dedication to ensure that clients dreams are met in a cost effective and architecturally savvy manor to meet building and council standards means balancing beautiful design with a practical approach which can often seem impossible. However, for Azero the overcoming of constraints within the architectural process and, looking at options for to create flow and make it work, have made us grow and push boundaries as a business and is one of the things that draws us into architecture, it is immensely rewarding seeing our plans play out and eventually evolve and come to life.

As we continue to grow, we endeavor to continue to stay fresh and move forward with market demands. Our recent re-brand from Millennium Architecture to Azero was carried out to do just that as ‘Millennium’ was becoming a thing of the past and we wanted to stay current and ensure our brand relates to our practices. We believe keeping our brand current and streamlined aligns with keeping our internal practices current and streamlined for our clients. So, our clients can see the complete big picture knowing we have the finer parts of the process sorted.

We wouldn’t have made it this far without our people. We have been fortunate to create some fantastic working relationships over the years and wish to thank all these businesses for their continued support. These working relationships are the core of our business, and it has been a delight to have grown with them over the years both in size and in knowledge. We have also been lucky enough to maintain some wonderful long running staff members who make Azero who we are today which we are extremely thankful for.

What will the next 21 years bring? As we look to the future, we see a lot of growth to come for Azero. We know that the industry is at a time of constant change and development in terms of design features, housing developments, detail and compliance. As a company we aim to continue to move forward with the new market, and industry demands whilst maintaining our drive to overcome complexity by growing the knowledge base within our team to continue to produce cleaver innovative award-winning designs.
